Consuming As Much Media As Possible

2026/10/11

Some years earlier, I made it my goal to play as many games and listen to as much music as possible. Though my interests have included other things, consuming them too much made it very hard to enjoy them, for example, I can only watch anime and read manga sparsely, and as for movies, I watched enough and feel no need to watch more unless I find something very interesting, which happens very rarely. In a single year, I watch a few movies max.
The obsession with music was caused by the fact that I ignored albums and only listened to random songs that I liked. Eventually, I caught on to the fact that I'm missing out, and started checking out not just albums, but entire discographies. From 2019 to 2024, the number of new albums I checked out in a year kept rising exponentially, from under a 100 in 2019, to ~450 albums in 2024 (not countin EPs and singles!). I don't regret it a single bit. I discovered a lot of great music, but sadly burned out, and since then I've not been in the mood to check out four fucking hundred albums in a year. But I still manage to listen to a lot of stuff, slowly growing my collection.
And though I am quite satisfied with the progress I made with music, I am not as pleased with my progress in games. I only started making a list of games to play and going through it in 2022 or so (I played games for a long time prior to that too - just not as obsessively). I tried my best, but even then, there's still plenty of games I need to check out. It's easy to turn on a random album when you're bored, tired or working on something that sucks, but games require your full attention, for much longer than an hour. Of course, I don't aim to play EVERY game. I don't want to, nor do I need to 100% everything to feel content. To put it better, I play games for a few to several hours to see if I enjoy the gameplay. If I do - great! I will keep playing. But only the really, really good games get me to play them repeatedly. If I'm not enjoying myself or find the genre itself boring, then I quit, though on occasion I've finished games I didn't enjoy that much. These days, I sometimes find it hard to tell easily anyways. Still lots of stuff left to play.. If I had a year or two off, I'd clean up 2/3rds of that, if not more (I'm picky with games). Whether I do or not is hard to say... Best case scenario, the next three years are just that. Worst case.. not really.
I wasn't always this obsessive over things. Though I do wish I started treating music more seriously earlier (I was missing out) and upgraded my PC a few years earlier as well, I had a different mindset back in the day. Hell, if I started this epic adventure just 5 years earlier, or even more, well, by now I'd be quite content with quite literally everything. I'd be less burned out too. But oh well. What is even the point of this article, anyways?
