Mr.Bean VS Scatman & Rocky 3D - Cut Content

2026/01/29

Mr.Bean VS Scatman was first conceived in July 2017, as a worthile update to an otherwise abrupt game called "The Room 426", which at the time only featured 3 levels. Though due to various reasons I wouldn't end up working on it until December 2020, it finally came out at the end of that year, and to date it is easily one of my best games, despite being made on a very lackluster engine.

The original sequence of chapters was slightly different: The Club was actually Fancy's Club (Mr.Bean would receive a call from him, asking for help in exchange for information), there was a coma stage after The Spaceship, initially called "Gigi's Club" (consisting mostly of mazes with Gigi D'agostino playing music somewhere), and possibly other stuff (I don't have the original txt file left anywhere).

While working on the game, I got rid of Gigi's Club because it was pointless. Instead, I expected to have a second set of levels similar to The Streets called The Park, where Mr.Bean would run into wanted posters of himself, fight cops and yellow goblins. It felt redundant, so I didn't finish it (though the sprites for the cop, police car and goblin were made, alongside some wall textures).

After Scatland, Mr.Bean was supposed to wake up in a hospital / nut house, and make an escape, eventually ending up near his home, suddenly ambushed by Scatland monsters. I decided to leave the ending open-ended because the game would become a slog after Scatland, and because those stages wouldn't look good (later, I confirmed this while working on Rocky 3D).

Other unfinished 3D games from 2017 included Arnold's Invasion (which I began work on, but abandoned) and Rocky: The Great Knockout 3D (which simply existed on my to-do list). These were never treated too seriously and could have possibly been released back then, though with quality on par with ACiD3D (currently - Chapter 5 of CT3DG, it has been through a lot of changes). ACiD3D actually had Fancy as an enemy, too.

I realized near the end that the original game, "The Room 426", was non-violent. After splashing enemies with ketchup and spraying a fire extinguisher on them, Mr.Bean suddenly turns homicidal and blasts them with a handgun until they disintegrate into chunks of meat! Oh shit. I decided to explain it using the coma stage, which would demonstrate that Mr.Bean is losing his mind, and perhaps the events of the game aren't real. It was scrapped, and I kept the violence cause it was fun.

Further work on Arnold's Invasion was expected to be done in early 2021, but I felt exhausted after working on RGM for so long, and didn't think I could really make another good game on it. The game now had a story:

Welcome to Arnold's Invasion 3D.
Famous Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was on his way to Planet Robert, where he would celebrate the release of his new movie, "The Big Bastard Film". While on his way, he received news of a strange phenomena occuring in the village of Arthur-Orthoped, where clones of Arnold were disturbing peace and causing havoc. Apparently, someone out there decided to ruin his reputation with the people of Planet Robert.
Arnold takes off his suit and puts on a bullet proof vest.
"Son of a bitch must pay."
Arnold's spaceship has just landed on the surface of planet robert.
"Hello everybody, This is me Arnold Schwarzenegger. Today we're gonna play a new fun game called you're under arrest."

It was influenced by soundboard prank calls such as that of Miles Bennett Dyson, which I really liked back in 2016-2017. Writing a story before making the game is not how things usually go for me, so I was stuck wondering what kind of levels to make. Eventually I moved on to working on my other 3D games, and then, Transfer Administrator.

The story for Rocky 3D would also be drafted sometime later that year, with the intention to make a prequel to Mr.Bean VS Scatman:

Rocky: The Ultimate Fighter 3D
The World Championship of Fighting and Martial Arts. A grand event held by an unknown host who is keeps spreading his influence in the city.
Rocky Balboa, a famous boxer and a member of the Italo Disco Society, joins the Tournament as double agent, attempting to gain the trust of Gigi D'Agostino, an eccentric DJ from Italy who appears to be acquainted with the enemy number one...
Little did Rocky know, the mission would not go as he expected.
Who is the elusive host, and why is he enemy number one?
It is for you to find out...

Arnold was eventually also incorporated into the Mr.Bean VS Scatman universe (called the Italo-Disco Universe at the time). The story now went roughly like this:

Rocky is a member of the Italo-Disco Organisation (IDO) and his mission is to get in contact with the mysterious Gigi D'agostino.
He is attack during the bloodsports, and escapes to the city, where he has to sneak around until he finds the supplies that have been dropped for him.
Finally escaping from the raging mutant athletes, he is sent over to Miami, where Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs have a deal for him.
Once he eliminates a few targets for them, they reveal Gigi's whereabouts. However, upon arrival, the place is set ablaze, and Rocky is forced to flee, but not before finding a note from Gigi that reveals his true motives: He was a Lento-Violento double agent, trying to gather intel on a much more dangerous foe.. Scatman John, who apparently faked his death and is now building an army.
Rocky flees, but is wounded while defending the IDO HQ. Savage (Roberto Zanetti) calls Mr.Bean to get him on the case.
---
(the events of Mr.Bean VS Scatman - Mr.Bean tracks him down, is sent into space, crashes down, sneaks back into his HQ and discovers that he is dead after all, but made immortal thanks to technology - he now resides in Scatland, a virtual world. He seemingly defeats him, but is never seen again).
---
A few months later, the IDO sends out a mercenary (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to look into suspicious activity in the North. He discovers an abandoned village full of grotesque monsters, and then, a secret base. Through one of its massive screens, he manages to communicate with Scatland, discovering that Mr.Bean is still alive in there, but that Scatman's plans have not been foiled. In order to save Mr.Bean and put an end to Scatman's villainry, Arnold needs to destroy all secret bases - nodes, all part of a network called the Tetranode.
Having destroyed the northern one, he follows the coordinates to South Africa, where the third node is protected by rebels.
Upon its destruction, Mr.Bean is freed from Scatland and ends the mission by destroying the last node - located on the moon.
Everyone reunites at the IDO HQ and celebrates!

That would have been a lot of levels to make. I was at loss and chose to procrastrinate.
The story was also revised to no longer feature Gigi, and with Mr.Bean now deciding that Scatman's goals of destroying the world to rid it of suffering were noble.
The final draft of the story tried to reflect the actual levels I'd have to make: The Fight Club, then Miami Vice cops raid it - Miami, then the IDO HQ. As for Arnold, The village, the second node, South africa, third node, the moon.

Then I tried to make Arnold into its own standalone game again, but it turned out so bad that I refused to release it. It had 6 or 7 levels, starting with the village and ending on the moon right after. The moon levels were horrendous, so I scrapped them and went back to revising the story. It became obvious that I am trying to adapt a game to a story rather than a story to a fun game. With Mr.Bean VS Scatman, I just had ideas for fun locations and no story in mind at all, so I thought it would make sense to try and list all non-redundant locations I could make. So, no cities (therefore no Miami), no disco clubs (therefore no IDO HQ), no moon, no africa (because it would be too similar to the Village, though it would have likely looked a bit better)...

Rocky was left with just the bloodsport arena. I decided to instead have the cops send him to a haunted hospital, which would have JCVD clones in it. Then I did away with the original story and turned the place into an underground lab, finishing the game off with the stuff from Arnold's Invasion, though I altered some of the textures, redid the levels and scrapped all weapons but one. And it worked! The game turned out short but alright. Surely, it is the last RGM game I'll ever make.
