Compiling all gothic stuff onto a single page? I don't see why not... So here you'll find gothic rock, darkwave, alternative stuff, grunge and some industrial I think.

Best Albums

Girls Under Glass

Crystas And Stones (1995)

GUG is another one of my favorite bands. This particular album is insane, every song has something unique about it and it keeps you pumped full of energy till the very end. "Die Zeit" is my favorite but every track is fantastic.

Girls Under Glass

Christus (1993)

I got into GUG through Minddiver, which I quickly lost interest in after checking out Christus. "The Heat In My Heart" and "Shadows Of Fear" are good songs to get started with, plus "Don't Be Afraid", I think there's something oddly familiar about it.

The Birthday Massacre

Violet (2004)

TBM peaked with this record. If you like it, make sure to check out the stuff that came before, including the Imagica demo. Anyways, good stuff. Make sure to listen to the album and not the EP cause there's more tracks on it.

Clan Of Xymox

Metamorphosis (1992)

Well this is one hell of an album. When I first heard it, it sounded like every song was made for a perfume commercial or something, if you know what I mean. I am sad to inform you they haven't made anything like it prior or since! Well.. Actually, you might wanna try Headclouds cause they came close with that one.. well, not particularly but yeah this is one of a kind sort of a deal.

A Perfect Circle

Mer De Noms (2000)

Tool can suck it, APC's debut is where it's at. There are a few weak experimental tracks towards the end, but otherwise it's another perfect release. Alternative metal of sorts, with a gothic twist.

Type O Negative

Life Is Killing Me (2003)

If you've never heard Type O, just try "I Don't Wanna Be Me" off this album. Now, to be fair, I don't like their other releases, but this song made me immediately check out this album and consequently love it.

Lycia

Ionia (1991)

And then she takes me down down down. A dark, atmospheric album, mostly featuring instrumentals. Yeah, this is the right stuff.

Lycia

Wake (1991)

I was wondering whether I should finish the list with a third GUG album, but this seemed more important. A more depressing release compared to Ionia, but nevertheless, it's very enjoyable even if you're not depressed which is preferable. And it's not going to depress you because it's a good album so here you go. This was my introduction to Lycia.

Lacuna Coil

Comalies (2002)

I checked this one out after hearing "Swamped" at the end of VTM:B and honestly, it's pretty good. I don't know why I don't listen to it more. The cover is also pretty. I have 3 spots left, but I don't have anything else left to put in here...

The Sisters Of Mercy

Floodland (1987)

"Dominion", "Lucretia" and "This Corrosion" steal the show, but the other tracks aren't bad either. A welcome listen, occasionally (or maybe not. Ask your doctor for a proper prescription).

Artists & Bands

A Perfect Circle - Trirteenth Step has a few decent songs like "Blue", "Gravity" and, my favorite, "The Package". I also like "Annihilation", "What's Going On" and finally, a really good one, "When The Levee Breaks".

Alice In Chains - Jar Of Flies is great. "Man In The Box", "We Die Young" and "Would?" are other nice songs.

Chaos God - "Chaos God (Adni)", "Bafometh 729 (Doomed)", "Lifetime", "Orbit / Abyss"

Clan Of Xymox - Headclouds (if you liked Metamorphosis), the other songs I listed are somewhat similar to Simple Minds in their sound: "A Million Things", "Blind Hearts", "Imagination", "Mark The Days", "Obsession", "Phoenix Of My Heart / Wild Thing", "Scum", "The River", "Written In The Stars".

Diary Of Dreams - "Wild".

Failure - "Another Space Song".

Filter - "Hey Man Nice Shot".

Girls Under Glass - Positive, Darius and Zyklus are mandatory alongside the other 2 albums. Beyond these, do check out everything else if you like them, there are unique tracks on Nightmares, Minddiver is not bad and other releases have cool songs ("Great Feet", "Is This The Place", "New Gold Dream" (the firewalker version), "The Sea")

God Lives Underwater - "Still".

Lycia - I also think Cold is pretty good. "And Through The Smoke And Nails", "Daphne", "Pray", "Pygmallion", "Wide Open Spaces"

Marilyn Manson - Not a fan of this guy, but occasionally "Antichrist Superstar", "Cake And Sodomy", "Dope Hat", "Lunchbox" or "Rock Is Dead" can be good.

Sisters Of Mercy - Vision Thing is a nice album. "I Was Wrong", "Something Fast", "Vision Thing", "When You Don't See Me".

Stolen Babies - "Tablescraps". I used to like "Second Sleep" and "Push Button".

Theatre Of Tragedy - Assembly is a great album, maybe I should have featured it instead of having 2 Lycia / 2 GUG albums.

The Birthday Massacre - Imagica and Nothing & Nowhere are very good early versions of Violet. There is also a 2016 Imagica album, it is remastered and sounds different, I'd recommend you to sample the true original first, then check this one out in addition. I like both. Walking With Strangers didn't impress me, but I must admit it has a few OK songs like "Goodnight", "Red Stars", "Science", "Walking With Strangers" and "Looking Glass".

The Pale Pacific - "Fortune Folds", "In the Sun, Pt. 2". Well this is not gothic at all. It's actually a band I found my looking up bands similar to Abandoned Pools using a certain website.

The Silence Industry - "Anthem!", "Kissing Clouds"

Tiamat - "Cain", "Gaia".

Tool - I don't have tool, but also can't say I'm much of a fan. You should check out Lateralus and Opiate. "Disposition", "Lateralus", "Opiate", "Parabol / Parabola", "Reflection".

Type O Negative - Don't miss out on the bonus tracks! "Out Of The Fire", "Christian Woman", "Cinnamon Girl".
