Yeah, this is a general page for NWOBHM, Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Cyber Metal, Melodic Metal and some other stuff. I had a short-lived fascination with the genre that went nowhere until a few years later, when I discovered more albums that I liked. I then tried to listen to as much metal as possible, tried to get into more genres, and was disappointed to find out that I still didn't like it all that much. Nowadays I listen to it scarcely, but there are some really fun songs out there so let's see what I have to offer...
Best Albums
Angel Witch
Frontal Assault (1986)
Hands down, the best heavy metal album of all time. There's no other atmospheric album like it, it's very dark. "Dream World" and "She Don't Lie" are my favorite tracks.
Praying Mantis
Predator In Disguise (1991)
Melodic metal, maybe AOR type stuff. Really good. "Can't See The Angels", "This Time Girl" and "Only You" are the best tracks here but just like the other albums here it's amazing in it's entirety.
Iron Maiden
Piece Of Mind (1983)
I don't know why others pick Number Of The Beast or Powerslave over this one. I can't stand most of the songs on either of those two... Anyways, sick record, a good listen in hot sunny weather, but feels out of place in winter.
Accept
Balls To The Wall (1983)
Ahh hell yeah, here we go. "Head Over Heels" is my favorite here, what a bad ass album. Starts off tough but shifts towards ballads by the end.
Children Of Bodom
Hatebreeder (1999)
Full of magic and energy. There's nothing like it out there.
Fjordfader
Fjordfader (2011)
I tried listening to various viking metal albums and whatnot, but none of them sound good. Sorry but bathory is not for me. This, however, is a real deal, unfortunately it is their only release, and only has a few songs. But to be fair, they reached perfection here, so no more releases are needed.
Praying Mantis
Forever In Time (1998)
If the synths on the first track don't make you go "yeah this is the good stuff" then I dunno, listen to something else. What did you expect?
Overkill
The Years Of Decay (1989)
The only thrash metal band that reeeally gets my blood pumpin'. The slow track in the middle is quite a curveball but don't skip it or the skull bat will devour your soul.
Judas Priest
Judas Priest (1990)
I don't care for British Steel or most of their output, but here they really went nuts.
Accept
Russian Roulette (1986)
Very fun. Aiming high!!!
Fear Factory
Demanufacture (1995)
Industrial metal. What the hell is that? I'm not sure, but the album is quite a treat. "Zero Signal" and "A Therapy For Pain" are the best.
Iron Maiden
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son (1988)
This one used to be my contender for their #1 record, but it lost to Piece Of Mind. Nevertheless, it's the kind of Maiden I like to hear.
Iron Maiden
Fear Of The Dark (1992)
I listened to it more back in the day, "Judas Be My Guide" and "From Here To Eternity" are really fun, it doesn't have any bad songs but I don't feel like playing it too much.
Iron Maiden
The X Factor (1995)
Maiden fans.. Step down because this is their last truly good album. The refined Fear Of The Dark sound with a new vocalist. "Fortunes Of War" and "Sign Of The Cross" are my favorites. Anyways, after this maiden went senile, though Virtual 11 does have a decent song or two. And yes, I do like "The Angel And The Gambler".
Iron Maiden
Somewhere In Time (1986)
I like it, in fact, the first 2 tracks, plus "Stranger In A Strange Land" and "Deja Vu" are great. But I have never ever thought to myself "Ah shit let's blast 'Alexander The Great'!".
Artists & Bands
AC/DC - yes they're not metal, but "Who Made Who", "Are You Ready" and a few other tracks sort of got me started so I think they're worth a mention here.
Accept - Apart from the albums I already mentioned, I guess Objection Overruled is not so bad.
Angel Witch - Also check out Screamin' 'n Bleedin'.
Axel Rudi Pell - "Voodoo Nights".
Bonfire - "Ready 4 Reaction", "Sword And Stone".
Children Of Bodom - Also check out Someting Wild and their other albums. A really good band.
Def Leppard - "Hysteria".
Dudes Of Wrath - "Shocker".
Fjordfader - I've said all there is to say about them.
GWAR - There's some entertaining tracks on Scumdogs Of The Universe and This Toilet Earth, aswell as America Must Be Destroyed.
Iron Maiden - You can find a good song or two on almost every album of theirs, to be fair.
Judas Priest - "Riding On The Wind", "The Hellion/Electric Eye", "Reckless", "Desert Plains", "Bloodstone", "Better By You Better Than Me", "Beyond The Realms Of Death", "Turbo Lover", "You've Got Another Thing Coming".
KISS - They're more of a rock band, but I used to like Creatures Of The Night, which is close to metal.
Massacre - "Cryptic Realms".
Megadeth - Youthanasia can be OK sometimes.
Metallica - Master Of Puppets was my first thrash album. Really liked it back then, nowadays though, well I can't remember the last time I heard it. Beyond it however I don't like them at all.
Metropolis - "The Darkest Side Of The Night"
Overkill - They have good songs on Under The Influence, Horrorscope and all the early albums aswell, but most of it bores me. I Hear Black is a cool album but also gets boring quick so I hardly ever listen to it. I prefer it to their earlier albums though. Some of their 90s output is enjoyable if you find the right tracks.
Praying Mantis - I haven't heard much outside of those 2 albums. The debut is weak but not bad.
Rammstein - The have some sick songs but overall I don't like them. "Sonne", "Engel", "Ich Will", "Du Hast", some other stuff..
Red Dawn - "Flying High" is a giga banger but is somehow completely obscure.
Sabaton - "Rise Of Evil", "Art Of War", "Carolus Rex", "The Final Solution", "The Last Stand".
Steeler - "Hunter Or Hunted" and "Undercover Animal".
Stribog - "Rusalka". Some kind of pagan metal.
Survivor - Again, more of a rock band, but since I won't be making a page for hard rock, I'll mention that I like "Burning Heart" here.
Sybreed - "Challenger" and the Voician remix of it, "Nomenklatura" plus some tracks on Antares and whatnot. Cyber metal.
The Dickies - "Killer Klowns From Outer Space".
The Fibonaccis - "Terrorvision".
The Power Station - "We Fight For Love". It plays at the end of Commando.
Tweaker - "Doom 3 Theme".
Van Halen - "Jump". It's the only Van Halen track I've ever heard somehow hahaha.
Venom - All of Black Metal is good.
W.A.S.P - "I'm Alive", "Wild Child", "The Torture Never Stops", "On Your Knees", "Show No Mercy".
Whitesnake - "Is This Love?".
